Types of work visa

Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa
- For: Employees with a nomination from an Australian employer for temporary work
- Prerequisites: Nomination by employer, relevant qualifications and experience, English
- Purpose: Temporary work (up to 4 years)
Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa
- For: Employees nominated by their employer in regional areas of Australia
- Conditions: nomination, work in the region, qualifications and experience
- Purpose: Temporary work with the possibility of permanent residence at a later date
Subclass 407 – Training Visa
- For: temporary stay for training and work experience in Australia
- Conditions: sponsorship by employer or educational institution, training programme
- Purpose: Acquisition of professional skills, duration depending on the programme (up to 2 years)
Subclass 400 – Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa
- For: short-term specialised work activities, e.g. special projects
- Conditions: project support, short timeframe (usually within 3 months)
- Purpose: Temporary stay for specific work
Subclass 485 – Temporary Graduate Visa
- For: graduates of Australian universities and professional institutions
- Prerequisites: Recent graduation, age up to 50 years, English
- Purpose: Temporary stay for work experience or job search (18-24 months)
