Types of work visa

  • Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa
    • For: Employees with a nomination from an Australian employer for temporary work
    • Prerequisites: Nomination by employer, relevant qualifications and experience, English
    • Purpose: Temporary work (up to 4 years)
  • Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa
    • For: Employees nominated by their employer in regional areas of Australia
    • Conditions: nomination, work in the region, qualifications and experience
    • Purpose: Temporary work with the possibility of permanent residence at a later date
  • Subclass 407 – Training Visa
    • For: temporary stay for training and work experience in Australia
    • Conditions: sponsorship by employer or educational institution, training programme
    • Purpose: Acquisition of professional skills, duration depending on the programme (up to 2 years)
  • Subclass 400 – Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa
    • For: short-term specialised work activities, e.g. special projects
    • Conditions: project support, short timeframe (usually within 3 months)
    • Purpose: Temporary stay for specific work
  • Subclass 485 – Temporary Graduate Visa
    • For: graduates of Australian universities and professional institutions
    • Prerequisites: Recent graduation, age up to 50 years, English
    • Purpose: Temporary stay for work experience or job search (18-24 months)
